What's That Buzz Somersworth?

It should be obvious by the name of this blog its intent, if to allow me to share for those how don't read between the lines well what's going on here.
I've come to that period of my life where I find the constant barrage of stupidity; ignorance, politics, and lack of community have taken their toll on my sanity.
If one of the lucky ones that has risen above the self-serving demagogic way and believe politicians serve your best interest, or one who is satisfied with the status quo in your community, this blog will probably not interest you. This blog is about “Common Sense”, something I find seriously lacking.
Occasionally I will be voicing my opinion on the bigger picture, but mostly I will be addressing my hometown. A town I wasn't born in but have spent the last twenty five years of my life creating a business, owning a home, and serving as a city official on a board that few understand or embrace.
I have no political interest what so ever!

The fact is I live in one of the 13 cities in the state of New Hampshire, Somersworth, and the smallest of the New Hampshire cities. We are basically a bedroom community, where no real jobs are to be had. Sure we have a few pockets of small manufacturing, an abundance of doctor's offices, pizza parlors, a small number of mom and pop's, but basically residents work outside city limits and just sleep here, a much more common situation in towns versus cities.
We have no adequate newspaper, although foolishly some tend believe the neighboring cities newspaper prints our news, it is woefully adequate. Occasionally a reporter may show up for a minimal photo-shot, or council meeting, but we have no news-bureau, no investigative reporting, and subsequently know very little of what exactly transpires of a day to day basis within our city. A little blurb here, a little obituary there certainly doesn't educate it citizens.
Do you think you’re informed here in Somersworth?
If you think you are I’ll ask this question, why has almost every Department head in City Hall been replaced, or resigned, or discharged within such a short period of time. Occasionally we hear of some individual leaving there post but no one informs us why. Who really believes this information blackout best serves the citizens of city?
As of late our Fire Chief, who was on the job for less than a year, suddenly resigns. Why?
We have come to find out our Director of Economic Development is moving to another location to serve as a town manager, not that's it’s a bad thing, but if truth be told it was just a matter of time, he was a lot of talk and no substance. Under his watch I have heard a lot but seen nothing, a six figure salary with benefits that couldn't walk the walk. Honestly does the downtown or the infrastructure look any better since he took on the position he now leaves. Rumor central had it that he wanted to leave a very long time ago.
Not long ago the Recreation Department lost its go to guy, discharged. Why?
This is bad policy, not necessarily getting rid of the dead weight, but keeping the public in the dark.
I bring these situations to your attention to show you how others would like to keep you ignorant. For what ever reasons certain individuals feel we should not know the reasons behind these management decisions a good reporter or an informed city counselor would understand a well informed community is an educated community.
Enough for now, my wife tells me my blogs tend to be to long. Please stay informed, join the site, spread the word, and seek answers to your questions than ask more Somersworth.
